- India men’s and women’s cricket teams will play T20 World Cups in Australia
- The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held between July 24 and August 9
- India will head to Australia for a Test series towards the end of 2020
While India ended 2019 with several hits and misses as a sporting nation, there is a lot to look forward to at the start of the new decade in 2020.
The biggest multi-sport event — the Olympic Games — will be held in Tokyo from July 24 and India will be eyeing a decent show after several breakthrough performances in the last few years.
For cricket fans, there is a lot in store as well. The women’s team will play the T20 World Cup in Australia from February while Virat Kohli-led men’s team will take a trip Down Under for the T20 World Cup in October and November. India will also play Australia in a Test series at the end of the year while there is a lot to look forward to in the Indian Premier League 2020 as well.
While badminton brings with it the regular set of major tournaments, all eyes will be on the big tourneys, including All England Championships, in the Olympic year.
With the arrival of 2020, the wait for the much anticipated Tokyo 2020 Olympics is close to coming to an end. But, before the Olympics get here, there are still a host of major sporting events to tickle every sports fan’s fancy. In particular, as would be expected, the first 5 months of the year will see a host of tournaments with Olympic Qualification implications.
Only senior-level tournaments have been included, except for the Junior World Championship and the Junior Asian Championship in weightlifting where they contribute towards the World Rankings that form the basis for Olympic Qualification. Also, no domestic tournaments or commercial leagues have been included.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India contested during March or April and May of every year by eight teams representing eight different cities in India. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. The IPL has an exclusive window in ICC Future Tours Programme.
